How Can Schools Inspire Children With Positive Role Models"
Jason Whiskerd, Brentwood Preparatory School, Essex
Most schools have values that they want pupils, staff and parents to identify with and embody. While seemingly straightforward, it?s also very difficult to sustain, given the multiple challenges we all face as educators. Broadly, I would want all staff to lead by example with both their actions and words. Pupils have an uncanny ability to work out staff and their role models always seem to be the adults who are able to communicate at their level with a sense of empathy and understanding and interest in their lives.
These positive role models tend to have another thing in common: they all listen to the pupils and neither disrespect nor patronise them.
