We talk to five headteachers from Abbotsholme in Derbyshire, Highfield School in Hampshire, Dulwich Prep in Kent, St James Prep School in London and Cothill Prep School in Berkshire to find out their advice advice about how to make the most of the new school term
With restrictions on the pandemic easing and Covid hopefully on the back foot, we ask five headmasters how we can make the most of the new school term and what’s in store for the future of schools

“It feels a bit like that scene from Great Expectations where Pip pulls down the dusty drapes in Miss Haversham?s drawing room and lets the light in. We want a Summer Term bathed in sun, and the outdoors. I think we all feel that our pupils return with something new and different because of lockdown. They have a steel and resilience. Yes, they are aware of the enormity of things but also that they have coped, more than well. And that brings confidence. We have shared something with the world, and it has changed us. It is up to us all to ensure the change is for the better. The academic gaps might be there but for us they appear minor. More compelling is the wellbeing of our pupils. We will provide time for study, but we need time for the joy of childhood and our sense of community.” Phillip Evitt, Head, Highfield Prep School Hampshire
