Brambletye School, a co-educational boarding and day prep school located in the heart of the Sussex countryside, won Independent School of the Year for International Student Experience at our Independent School of the Year Awards 2021. Here’s how they came out on top out of over 700 entrants.
Brambleteye is proud to be a global village. Reputation spreads through word of mouth to families across the world and Brambletye School currently has children from 12 countries. Diversity in the boarding house is celebrated and from an early age the children learn to accept and celebrate each others’ differences, children understand and practise tolerance, respect and empathy.
They are interesting about and interested in each other’s cultures. Junior boarders have story night in the dorms when they choose traditional stories from around the world to be read to.
They often like to choose a story from their own culture to share with the others. Joe from Japan recently chose the Samurai and the Tea Master and William chose the story of the Chinese Ox. The staff compliment the children’s courage to travel far away from home and their ability to study in a second language.
Food is a great vehicle to appreciate countries and cultures. Boarding suppers are often themed and children encouraged to recommend food. Mexican, Tapas, Chinese, Morrocan, Thai, American, Vietnamese are favourites.
