Does it really cost more to raise girls than boys"
Yup. According to a recent survey, it?s almost £30,000 more?
New research from price comparison website moneysupermarket.com has revealed the hefty costs of raising children, with the total figures amounting to £79,176 for a boy and £108,884 for a girl. With a difference of £29,708, that?s more than a typical full-price university degree.
The survey broke down the price difference between genders from birth to the age of 18, highlighting significant life events and how much they cost, including starting school and extra-curricular activities.
While as babies our little ones tend to cost the same (with parents spending around £2,400 on nappies), by the age of 13, boys toys and make-up starting taking their toll on parents? wallets. Parents of boys will spend almost £7,800 on tech, but girls require £13,800 worth of toiletries and make-up in their teenage years. Unsurprisingly, it?s clothes that really bring up the costs for parents of daughters ? even at toddler age, parents spend almost 37% more on girls’ clothes than boys’ and throughout childhood, girls? clothes cost £11,720 compared to boys? at £5,890. There is one saving grace for parents of daughters, however. Studies show that due to their readiness to ask for more, boys demand 11% more pocket money than girls. Whether that beats the major difference in expenditure remains to be seen?
