Durham Students Close in on Miami on Boxing Day in record-breaking 2,000-mile challenge
Two Guys, One Kayak, Two-Thousand Miles
They?ve endured backbreaking paddling, sometimes at night, been circled by sharks and stingrays ? and all under the relentless heat of the Caribbean sun. Durham University students, Will McCreadie, 21, and George Parry, 22, are due to finish their epic three-month challenge which began in Grenada on 26th September ? by reaching Miami on Boxing Day.

Against the elements
At times, the weather seemed to also conspire against them: McCreadie and Parry had to sit out an 11-day delay due to the worst period of weather the Dominican Republic has ever experienced ? made worse by Hurricane Otto off Panama. The pair who are called the Golden Arc Expedition are on track to be the first, the fastest and the youngest UK team to attempt kayaking the Caribbean Sea. By averaging 30 nautical miles per day (the equivalent to crossing the English Channel every day), this puts them ahead of two previous attempts (2014, 1977). Golden Arc are raising money for Get Exploring Trust, which McCreadie and Parry set up, and which aims to help disadvantaged young people.
