Former Independent School Pupil Recognised at Pride of Britain Awards 2017
Shrewsbury High School alumna, Sarah Hope was named the Special Recognition Winner at this year?s Pride of Britain Awards 2017
Sarah Hope, a former pupil of Shrewsbury High School, was named the Pride of Britain 2017 Special Recognition Winner in London earlier this week.
She and her twin sister, Victoria set up and now run the amputee charity, Elizabeth’s Legacy of Hope, following a tragic car accident that affected their family 10 years ago. Sarah had very recently given birth to her first son, and was taking her mother Elizabeth and two-year-old daughter, Pollyanna to meet the newest member of the family.
On their way to the hospital in London, the car was struck by an out-of-control bus, which had mounted the pavement and smashed into them. Above, Sarah and her sister Victoria returned to Shrewsbury School to speak about their charity work
With her legs trapped under the bus, Sarah couldn’t move. ?I could hear Pollyanna screaming,” she says. “I could see her in the corner of my eye, about 20 feet away. She had been flung through the air. I could not help her. She was taken in an ambulance to Chelsea and Westminster hospital and operated on for eight hours, as four surgeons tried to save her leg.”
Sarah’s mother, Elizabeth, was tragically killed in the accident, while Sarah’s left leg had been “degloved”, meaning the skin had been completely ripped off. Pollyanna eventually had her right leg amputated below the knee ...
