The director of hockey at King?s College, Taunton, writes on the great reasons for learning to play the sport
I am incredibly proud to be director of hockey at King?s College, Taunton, where I am working hard alongside my colleagues to ensure that everyone, no matter what their hockey aspirations, receive the best possible experience.
Top-Class Hockey
I am an England Hockey Level 4 Coach. I coach at the Hockey Advanced Apprenticeship in Sporting Excellence Camps (AASE) and formerly at England Hockey NAGS Academies and have been assistant coach with the England U16 girls. I also deliver coach awards for England Hockey as part of their coach education team.
If I can transmit just a little bit of the love I have for hockey to the pupils, then I am happy!
Love and Passion
I played hockey at county level at school, continuing my love of the sport at university. After graduating, I played at club level, eventually playing national league for Taunton Vale Hockey Club, where I retired from play to begin coaching the side back to national league status.
The England Masters
Upon hitting ?Masters hockey age? (O40!) I decided to put my skills and experience to
the test, and trialled for the England Masters. I got in! This is a fabulous, very organised and competitive set-up run by people who are very passionate about hockey.
