How Gordonstoun Shaped King Charles III
King Charles III spent five years boarding at Gordonstoun, one of the UK?s leading independent schools situated in Elgin in the northeast of Scotland. As we step out of the Elizabethan age and embark on the new Carolean era, we take a look at how the school shaped the young Prince Charles to become the new Monarch
The decision to send King Charles III to a British private school was a significant departure from the Royal norm. His Majesty was the first Prince of Wales to be educated at a school, as opposed to private tutors, meaning that he would “rub shoulders” with boys from working-class families as well as others from a variety of backgrounds.
On his first day on the 1st May 196, Prince Charles was flown to RAF Lossiemouth in a plane piloted by his father the Duke of Edinburgh, who was one of Gordonstoun?s first pupils, and then driven by his father to the school. Over the next five years, he participated in Gordonstoun?s uniquely broad curriculum which had a particularly high focus on outdoor education. How Gordonstoun Shaped King Charles III

Prince Charles left Gordonstoun in 1967 with five O-levels in English Language, English Literature, History, Latin and French and two A-levels in History and French; he achieved above-average results which secured him a place to study archaeology and anthropology at Cambridge University.
It was a surprise decision...
