When world-leading engineers and scientists petitioned the government to fix the UK?s STEM skills shortage recently, Oundle School could have been forgiven for feeling it was ahead of the game. The Northamptonshire school has had a particular focus on STEM ? or science, technology, engineering and maths ? since the start of the 20th century, when its then headmaster decided that a reputation for science and engineering education was just what the school needed to set it apart. As a result, Oundle is now playing more than a minor part in helping to plug the 170,000-worker-gap in the country?s STEM sector ? not just by arming its own pupils with STEM skills, but also by sharing resources with young people beyond its own school walls.
