How to Choose an Independent School
A good independent school doesn’t just support your child’s learning, but also prepares them for life beyond education. Dr Gillian Allcock, Head of Higher Education and Careers at Bishop Stortford College, tells us more
Choosing a school for your child at any age can be a daunting experience, and finding the right fit for you and your family is critical. Does the school have the right balance of sport, music, art and drama with academic studies that will allow your child to flourish" Can they offer you a continuous education through to A-Levels, or will you need to start this process again at 7, 11, 13 or 16"
While you may just be at the start of your child?s independent school journey, a nod to the future may not be amiss, and expertise and support in the options beyond school may also be a factor for consideration. Careers guidance and the advice offered by schools can be rich and varied dependant on the resources available and the experience of the advisors. Some schools offer very little or use entirely external services, while others will have whole departments dedicated to researching work experience opportunities.
