Boarding is embraced by the pupil, staff and parent community at Sandroyd School with a particular emphasis on its pastoral care provision. Its nomination caught the judges? attention in the boarding category of our awards campaign. Here, Ed Lyddon, head of pastoral care, tells us more
?The academic year 2019/20 was an exceptional year for Sandroyd?s boarding offering. Whilst a summer term lockdown meant a reduction in the length of time the boarding was open, Sandroyd opened up our boarding immediately after half term in the summer term to support our year six boarders and the children of critical workers. By the end of the summer term, all boarding was open to all year groups.
?This was a phenomenal achievement. As one parent recently commented the Headmaster was ?able to implement restrictions, yet absolutely maintain the spirit of boarding school life through lockdown. ?The range of activities, the exceptional pastoral care and the ethos and boarding environment have all improved over the past few years meaning that all beds are now full, with a waiting list of day children seeking to become boarders. 2019/20 also saw the completion of our refurbishment of every dormitory and boarding common room across the school.
?The governors committed significant funds to update the accommodation, beds and mattresses and this has clearly paid off in the eyes of our boarders and their parents.
