‘Find your own superb’ is the exhortation that head Tom Lawson asks of all pupils at Eastbourne College. The school is making waves with the ‘blue health’ philosophy inspired by its seaside location and promotes healthy balance which teenagers need to navigate adolescence.
Boys and girls enjoy initiatives together including our new ‘mindgym’ which links physical and mental wellbeing and are supported by gold-standard pastoral care
from our talented houseparents.
Co-education is at the heart of the College’s inclusive philosophy. More than fifty years’ after the first girls arrived, the College celebrates its integrated history, and makes diversity an unforced and authentic part of life. Mary Lowndes, designer of the chapel’s stained-glass windows, and prominent early 20th Century suffragist, was the subject of a year-long celebration, and our thriving ‘Be You’ equality and inclusion group lets pupils drive the agenda.
College staff, working with Sir Tim Smit and others, successfully campaigned for a new Natural History GCSE which has recently been accredited by the DfE.
