Inspiring Girls in Agriculture
In her plea to raise awareness for women working in agriculture, Sixth Former, Anna Hunt inspired her fellow pupils by driving a tractor to school
How did you get to school or work this morning" Car" Bus" Walk" All pretty standard modes of transport for the average commute ? but not for Anna Hunt, Head Girl of Bedford Girls’ School, who ventured on a hour-long journey to school earlier today…on a tractor.
The Sixth Former, whose family owns Watergate Farm in Bedfordshire, wanted to raise awareness of young people and women in agriculture, so inspired and amazed her fellow pupils by arriving on a Case Tractor after a 19-mile trip to school.
After negotiating a busy A421, where her tractor was restricted to 40mph, Anna safely arrived at school at 7.45am, parking her vehicle on the front lawn. The student, who is a passionate farmer and member of the National Federation of Young Farmers’ Clubs, said: “It?s quite unusual to travel that far in a tractor and I had plenty of traffic trying to overtake me on the A421, but I wanted to do something that could spark the girls? interest in agriculture.”Â

“Raising awareness of young people and women in agriculture is something I care deeply about. By bringing the tractor in and parking it on the front lawn, I?ve had girls of varying ages ask about agriculture and what I do on my family?s farm.”
