London children cash in on £168 of holiday spends
Hold on to that credit card. The average family in the capital spends more than £152 per child to keep them happy on holiday, with the addition of £16 on sweets and drinks, a new survey revealsÂ
The research from money-saving website Voucherbox.co.uk also revealed that many of us are willing to spend even more ? up to an extra £100 per day ? to keep our little ones occupied when we go away, and 39% of London parents will spend less on themselves as a result.
When it comes to families’ favourite purchases, it seems much of our money is being spent on traditional holiday treats such as ice cream (20%), buckets and spades and inflatables (13%), while day-to-day ‘rewards’ such as extra WiFi and mobile app purchases sit bottom of the list. The survey also revealed that 80% of London parents are willing to bribe their children to behave when on holiday, however much its costs. It also revealed that 32% of us prefer to choose the non-committal half-board option, with bed and breakfasts proving the most popular and hassle-free. The top five holiday activities for children were also named, with the resident kids’ club topping the list (20%), the zoo coming second (13%), followed by the play park, theme parks and bike hire.
