How long have you been at the school"
I have been the Headmistress of Westonbirt since 2013. Before that, I was Deputy Head at Harrogate Ladies? College in Yorkshire.
Can you tell us a little bit about the history of the school"
Our school has a fascinating history and heritage. It was established over 90 years ago, in 1928, as a girls-only boarding school on the former family estate of Robert Holford, an eccentric Victorian millionaire who was passionate about collecting rare trees and plants from all over the world. He had close ties with the Royal Family, and just a couple of years before the school was founded, Holford invited Queen Mary to plant our stunning cedar tree, which now serves as a resting place for our resident peacock Bertie ? photos of the event were recently found in a local archive. Today, our senior school is based in the stunning Victorian Westonbirt House surrounded by 210 acres of beautiful parkland and Italianate Gardens. The original Westonbirt House was built in 1665 and replaced over time with a Georgian House. The current house which was built by Holford between 1863 and 1870, considered to be one of the finest examples of a Victorian stately home in England.
