Mock Election Results Revealed at Rydal Penrhos School
The votes are in and have been counted, and the winners of Rydal Penrhos’ mock election have been announced…
In the lead-up to the UK General Election, it’s mock elections that have been the central focus in independent schools up and down the country this week. And nerves certainly took hold at Rydal Penrhos School, Colwyn Bay yesterday, where budding politicians found out their fate as the results of the vote were announced.
The parties have been tirelessly campaigning for weeks, but finally it was announced that Labour, led by student Benjamin Gibson had come out on top with 68 votes. They were followed by Olivia Rogerson’s Conservative Party, who placed second with 44.
Find out more about Rydal Penrhos School, Colwyn Bay on our Schools Directory Llywelyn Cowell’s Plaid Cymru earned a third place spot with a total of 26 votes, with Head Girl Olivia Williams’ Liberal Democrats finishing in fourth with 21. Rounding of the list was the Scottish National Party, led by Matthew Trumper, who came fifth with 20 votes.

The election results revealed that a fantastic 187 votes had been cast in total, with a 75 per cent turn-out. Following the announcement, Lower-Sixth pupil, Ben delivered an acceptance speech, thanking the other candidates for their efforts and Head of Sixth Form, Mr Peter Lavery, for his “untold enthusiasm” towards the election.
