Photographer Diane Yudelson‘s powerful photo series “Lost” was inspired by the artist’s own grief. Diane had 11 miscarriages between 1993 and 2005.

Ten years after her last miscarriage, Diane was helping a friend grieve. This triggered thoughts of her own pain and that’s when she decided to create the deeply personal photo series to commemorate the babies she lost.

“With each loss of my 11 babies, I kept mementos. They are all kept pristinely stored in a white box in my closet, as are the memories of their short lives kept pristinely stored in my heart.” Lost: Violet, Photo: Dianne Yudelson
The artist and her husband have raised two children, but the grief from her miscarriages is ever present. Sharing her private memories has helped to ease some of the pain.
