Canadian best-selling author Margaret Atwood’s kid classic, Wandering Wenda, will soon be wandering onto the TV screens of Canadian families.
The Wide World of Wandering Wenda will air in winter 2017 on Kids’ CBC. The 26-episode series is not only inspired by Wandering Wenda, but also by Atwood’s other alliterative picture book, Widow Wallop’s Wunderground Washery. The show will follow Wenda and her two best buds Wu and Wesley Woodchuck as they embark on magical adventures together.
?I’m delighted that Wenda has wandered her way into the wild world of television and wish her well on her adventures,? said Atwood in a press release.
Each 8-minute long episode will encourage kids to develop their literacy skills, too. Wenda and friends will explore sounds, words and letters aimed at early readers. “The best thing for kids is to combine something that’s fun for them with something that also allows them to absorb stuff they might need to know, like how to read,” Atwood told CBC.
In the meantime, it might not be a bad idea to crack open Wandering Wenda before bedtime!
