Prepare Your Child For Starting School
So, you?ve got the coveted primary school place, but now what" In the months leading up to starting school, you may find yourself asking ?Is my little one ready"? Katie Roden from Ready for School, a new app designed to help children prepare for schooling, shares her top tips with us
There are many ways you can support your little ones at home to ensure that they have the best possible start in their new school. Here are six simple steps to help boost their confidence:
Play acting
Play ?school? with teddies to introduce your child to the different activities at school. Don?t forget to ring the bell and have playtime.
Button up
Ensure little ones can dress for PE by themselves. Practise doing up buttons and putting on shoes with less help from mum and dad. Wash and wipe
Encourage your child to get into the habit of flushing the toilet, washing hands and wiping their nose (without prompting) when it is running ? all skills they will need come September.
Taste
Try lots of different foods at home so children are ready for new tastes at break and lunch.
Friendship
Have them practise making new friends by arranging play dates ? this will ensure the first few days are far less unsettling!
