Health Canada, the United States Consumer Product Safety Commission (US CPSC), PROFECO and Contigo have recalled nearly 6 million water bottles after identifying that the water bottle’s clear silicone spout can detach, posing a choking hazard to children. Only water bottles with a black colour spout base and black colour spout cover are included in this recall.
Bottles were sold between April 2018 to June 2019 and can be identified by the Contigo printed on the rim and along the front near the bottom of the bottle. Affected water bottles were sold in three sizes (13 ounce, 14 ounce and 20 ounce) and four styles (solid, graphic print, stainless steel and stainless steel with solid colours). As of August 20, 2019, the company has received 30 reports of the spout detaching in Canada and 149 reports in the U.S. There are currently no reports of injuries.
What should you do"
Consumers should immediately stop using the recalled water bottles, take them away from children and contact Contigo for inspection instructions and a free replacement lid.
