Health Canada has recalled 2.7 million fire extinguishers sold across Canada dating back to 1973 due to a failure to activate during a fire emergency. The extinguishers affected are two styles of Kidde-branded and Garrison-branded fire extinguishers: Plastic Handle Fire Extinguishers and Push-Button Pindicator Fire Extinguishers. They were sold at various retailers between from January 1, 1973 and September 22, 2017.

   RECALL: Health Canada recalls dishwashers due to fire risk
Health Canada says that the extinguishers can become clogged or require excessive force to discharge, leading to a failure to activate during a fire emergency.  In addition, the nozzle may detach with enough force to pose an impact hazard. As of November 2, 2017, Health Canada has received two reports of limited or failed activation in Canada, one of which, involved property damage. Health Canada has not received any reports of consumer injuries in Canada related to the use of these products.
