Solihull School Raised Over £6,000 for Cancer Charities
Pupils at Solihull Junior School raised a spectacular £6,060 for four cancer charities at their recent decathlon event
More than £6,000 has been raised by the Junior students at Solihull School at their annual decathlon, in which participants shot baskets, dribbled footballs, tackled an obstacle course and had a go at “welly wanging”.
In total, Solihull School’s pupils raised an impressive £6,060, with all four year groups selecting a cancer charity who would benefit from the event. Year Three chose to donate their funds to Target Ovarian Cancer, after a student lost his grandmother to the illness last year. The charity aims to improve early diagnosis, fund life-saving research and provide more support to sufferers of ovarian cancer. Find out more about Solihull School on our Schools Directory
The Anthony Nolan Trust was the choice from Year Four, selected in tribute to a pupil who lost his father to myeloma when he was three years old. The outstanding work of the charity helps people suffering from blood cancers by finding stem cell or bone marrow donors.

Year Five chose to support Cancer Research UK, after a student’s grandmother was diagnosed with multiple myeloma, while Year Six selected Prostate Cancer UK, after one pupil’s grandfather was recently treated with chemotherapy and hormone treatment for the disease ? the most common cancer among men in the UK.
