Girls across St Mary?s Lower School took part in a range of maths activities outside to celebrate Outdoor Classroom Day, 20 May 2021.
Braving the elements for Outdoor Classroom Day, the Prep and Year 1 girls enjoyed creating patterns and shapes using natural materials. In Year 2, the girls played Bingo, finding number bonds to match digits dotted around the playground as well as completing shape and pattern tasks using natural materials.
In the Juniors, Year 3 consolidated their understanding of direction by using compasses to explore what they could see at different points around the school and then swapping. In Year 4, the girls timed how long it would take to complete a range of energetic tasks (and then scaled up these amounts) as well as creating symmetrical minibeasts using natural resources. At the top end of the school, Years 5 and Year 6 pupils calculated the height of a range of trees around the school grounds and completed outdoor maths scavenger cards.
