Teachers Needed to Help Shape the New Sex Education Curriculum
Sexual health charities are imploring for examples of good practice when it comes to teaching sex and relationships education, it has been announced this week
Charities, Brook and FPA are inviting teachers to help shape the way sex and relationships education is taught in schools, so this can be presented to key policymakers when the subject is made compulsory.
Helen Marshall, chief executive of Brook, said: “So often, we hear stories about relationships and sex education in schools being inconsistent and poor quality.
“By launching this campaign, we are delighted to give teachers and professionals the opportunity to promote and share their positive examples with policy makers, and help shape the future for young people.”
Above, children are expected to learn about online safety, sexting and consent as part of the new SRE curriculum Natika Halil, chief executive of FPA, adds: “We?re keen to make sure that the decision-makers are aware of the very best programmes delivered by teachers or external providers.”
SRE will be statutory in schools in England from 2019, and to nominate an SRE programme or lesson, teachers must simply complete the online nomination form. It is hoped that the charities’ collection of case studies will provide a guide for policymakers, to help them in developing guidance for schools. The deadline for entries is 31 July 2017.
