Teaching the Next Generation
Kensington Prep School’s new modern spaces for learning are built to complement their classroom-based teaching, writes Prudence Lynch
Educating the next generation to prepare them for adult life is a huge responsibility and it has never felt more important or more difficult to do well.
We just can?t take it for granted that what worked in the past will work in the future. Predicting what that future might hold in even five years, never mind 20, can feel
a bit like crossing your fingers and looking into a crystal ball.
Personal growth
At Kensington Prep we?ve spent a lot of time thinking about what pupils will really need if the future is that unpredictable. The list of skills or personal attributes we came up with included flexibility, willingness to take risks, ability to work collaboratively
at a deeper level, resilience, reflectiveness and much more!
Confident girls
Our aim has always been to develop confident girls with intellectual curiosity and well-rounded personalities, girls with ?bounce-back? who grow to see mistakes as a healthy part of the learning process. We want them to feel brave enough to to tackle problems to which there may be a variety of solutions rather than one correct answer.
We have started to alter many of our teaching practices and increase the emphasis and focus on the pupils? learning. We felt that our traditional classrooms were limiting our ability to give the girls a really powerful experience of greater self-directed learning.
