July is nearly here, and with it the challenge of how to keep children ? from little adventurers to restless teens ? occupied during the long summer months off school. The advent of smartphones presents an additional imperative to find activities to distract from screens. America has always excelled at summer camps ? immortalised in films like The Parent Trap ? while we Brits have relied on soggy seaside holidays and maybe the odd pony club camp. But as with most things, the trend has hopped the pond, and a slew of new summer school camps, ranging from the outdoorsy (those offering traditional bushcraft and water sports) to the more educational (coding camps are taking off), have sprung up over here.  School camps at private schools
Some canny boarding schools have spotted an opportunity to use July and August to advertise their state-of-the-art facilities (think: sports halls, art rooms, indoor pools) to potential future families.
