Tim Peake’s Lasting Legacy in Education
Tim Peake’s mission to the International Space Station had undoubtedly had a major impact on education. Now as the astronaut plans his second trip to space, we look at how his work is continuing to inspire schoolchildren all over the UK
British astronaut, Tim Peake will be rocketing back into space for a second time, following his 2015-16 trip to the International Space Station.
Reports say that the trip isn?t likely to take place until 2019 at the earliest, but fans of the astronaut can still get their fix of Major Peake at the Science Museum in London, where his spacecraft, the Soyuz TMA-19M, is currently on display.
Tim Peake has done much to lift the spirits of the British public over the last two years, both on board the space station and since his return to Earth in June 2016. However, it is his work within education that has had a truly momental impact, inspiring boys and girls from all over the UK, and instilling a new-found love and enthusiasm for STEM. Parsons Green Prep was one such school to introduce a new and exciting chapter to their STEM programme, following the announcement of Major Peake’s mission. The schoolchildren were able to speak to Tim in a live link-up prior to his trip, and even designed their own rocket using effervescent tablets. Pupils also made a porthole and imagined what Tim might see in space.
