When I was growing up there was little money, but we still ate good food, freshly prepared by my mother every day. One thing that is very important for digestion is craving for food. When we arrived home from school, the evening meal would be cooking and the house would be full of wonderful aromas. But we would have to wait for an hour or more before we could sit down to eat ? all the time building up a huge appetite for our meal, making our bodies ready to receive and enjoy the cooking. These days it seems people eat constantly; there is always food available. When I was young there was no fridge packed with food or cupboard full of snacks available at any time, day or night. My mother raised four boisterous boys and she insisted on good table manners and eating at the right time. We ate meals slowly, using small bites and chewed each mouthful thoroughly.
