Isaac may look like everyone else, but he’s got something that makes him a little different. In fact, he’s a superhero and he’s got the powers to prove it!
Isaac is the main character of Melanie Walsh’s new book, Isaac and His Amazing Asperger Superpowers!, which tries to explain Asperger’s Syndrome?a type of autism?to kids in a way that’s easy to understand. The story is based on Walsh’s personal experience with her on-the-spectrum son.
“I wanted to write a book that explained Asperger syndrome to classmates, friends, and relatives in a simple, gentle, and positive way,” says Walsh. “Children who have ASD do have challenges, but also many amazing strengths.” Photo: ISAAC AND HIS AMAZING ASPERGER SUPERPOWERS! And indeed, Isaac has many strengths. His superhero brain allows him to remember a bunch of interesting facts and he’s able to spot little things that other kids can’t with his super vision. Isaac’s got a lot to think about, so if he doesn’t remember to say hi, he’s not being rude, he just forgot!
