We Are Family

If my Instagram feed is an indicator of how families are spending time together, my parenting skills are not measuring up. I do not take my grade schoolers to art openings or on trips around the world, nor do I invest in #matchingfamily outfits that come in four sizes (really""!). I’ve never even bought my kids toys to unbox on YouTube.
But don’t worry, we can all breathe a sigh of relief because that’s not how families are actually spending time together either. Thanks to new research from Ronald McDonald House Charities, who asked real parents across the country how they bond with their kids (RMHC Family Togetherness Survey, Ipsos, 2019), I learned that family meals (80%), watching movies and TV (76%), playing (58%) and group gaming (34%) are the most common ways our families log together time. And 91% of us say we’re good with our family life. And now I’m relieved. Especially seeing that stat about gaming (this dad need not be alone in his shame).
