Wellington College’s Chelsea Flower Show Garden Wins Gold
Wellington College is celebrating a fantastic gold-medal-win for “Breaking Ground”, their Chelsea Flower Show Garden
The RHS Chelsea Flower Show 2017 is finally here, and this morning it was announced which of the stunning designs on display had won a coveted Gold Medal award. Among these was Berkshire-based school, Wellington College, who’s beautiful Breaking Grounds garden was inspired by their bold ambition to break down the barriers to independent education.
The central feature of the garden is a series of monumental, steel structures, which represent the “disappearing walls” to accessing education, and making it possible for more young and gifted people to receive a life-changing school experience, regarding of their financial situation. Sponsored by Darwin Property, and designed by Andrew Wilson and Gavin McWilliam of Wilson McWilliam Studio, the garden also emulates the significant reduction in Berkshire heathland, with references to the original, bleak heathland landscape into which Wellington College was established in the 1850s.
This is the fourth garden that Wilson and McWilliam have designed at the RHS Chelsea Flower Show, their most recent appearance being the medal-winning Living Legacy Garden in 2015, also in support of Wellington College.
