When do Babies Start Recognising Their Own Reflection"
Looking at the photo below, makes me laugh so much I nearly cry. I remember the first time I held my baby brother who was only a few months old in front of the mirror and he just started (laughing) to himself.  At that time, he was only about three months old and I still think he was quite an intelligent baby.
Since then, I?ve often wondered what goes through babies? minds when they look in the mirror during the early stages. According to research, when babies are around 12 to 18 months they start to recognize themselves. Most babies tend to laugh at their reflection in the mirror before they reach this development stage.
Here are some steps you can take to find out whether your child is beginning to recognise themselves when they are in front of the mirror.
Wipe something on your child?s nose such as a piece of lipstick and then place them directly in front of the mirror.
Then watch to see how your child will react.
If your child doesn?t notice anything different and just stares at their reflection, then they have not reached the stage where they recognize the reflection as their own.
If your child begins to wipe the lipstick off their nose, then they have reached the stage where they recognise their own reflection.
Is your child aged between 12 months to 20 months" Â You too can conduct a range of tests to discover what development stage your child has reached.
