The Winter Olympics 2022 is due to commence tomorrow, and one of Team GB’s star snowboarders is non other than Hipperholme Grammar School alumna, Katie Ormerod.
Katie Ormerod started snowboarding at Halifax dry slope when she was just five-years-old. Since then, she’s won countless titles and landed a spot on Team GB. Here’s a brief look at her career and what to expect from her in the Winter Olympics 2022:
Katie Ormerod’s journey to the Winter Olympics 2022
Katie attended Hipperholme Grammar School, a co-educational independent school in West Yorkshire, from 2008 to 2017. During this time, she competed in international snowboarding competitions. And won numerous titles.
World titles and podium finishes
At 15 years old, Katie became the youngest girl to land a Double Backflip on a snowboard. Only a year later,  she became the world?s first female to complete the Backside Double Cork 1080 move. Managing huge tricks like this have lead to many high ranking finishes on some of the competitive snowboarding world’s biggest stages.
Katie took home gold at the 2017 FIS Freeski in Moscow and silver at the Snowboard Big Air World Cup in Milan, positioning her at number two in the 2017 Overall Big Air World Cup Rankings.
