Hundreds of schoolchildren across the UK celebrated World Book Day 2017 by dressing up as their favourite literary character, but King’s Hall School in Taunton thought they’d mark the occasion in their own special way.
“We turned our library into a reading surgery for World Book Day,” said Emily Marcuccilli, the school’s librarian. “It was staffed by my wonderful Year Six Library Monitors, who were the “Reading Doctors”, complete with white coats and stethoscopes!”
Above, the Reading Doctors prescribed books that they thought their “patients” might enjoy All classes between Years Three and Six were timetabled to come into the library, and could relax in the specially-created waiting room area, as they wait for their one-to-one consultation.
“The Reading Doctors chatted to the pupils about their reading preferences, and prescribed some books that they might enjoy. The children also received special World Book Day mini books and book vouchers to take home.”
