A unique ?Experience of Work? at Alleyn?s School
Alleyn?s adapt to the new normal with a unique take on their ?Experience of Work? week in times of COVID-19.
In Summer Term, Year 11 pupils would usually embark on a week in an industry that interests them. With lockdown upon them, the Careers team at Alleyn?s asked themselves how they could still facilitate a meaningful week without pupils physically being on an employer?s site" How could pupils gain insight into industries they are interested in or curious about" How could some pupils go from having no idea about what sort of work they may want to do in the future, to having a better idea of which sector/s may be of interest"
Far from COVID-19 standing in their way however, a reimagined ?Experience of Work? week was organized, in which pupils could still achieve meaningful outcomes ? from building their commercial awareness to participating in a relevant industry specific project. Furthermore (and in keeping with the guidance for good careers provided by The Gatsby Benchmarks), interacting with professionals in industry became a key component of the week. The Alleyn?s community wholeheartedly rallied behind the idea and more than 25 people each participated in an hour-long careers insight focused interview. This was filmed and then housed on the school?s virtual learning platform to benefit others long after the week itself had closed.
