Staying at the same school from pre-prep to sixth form has many benefits, says Hannah Butland, deputy head of teaching and innovation at Berkhamsted
Berkhamsted School is a family of schools located in an historic market town in the Chiltern Hills. Its prep, girls, boys and sixth form campuses are all a short distance from the high street with the pre-prep situated in a beautiful rural setting just outside the town.
Continuous education
Pupils learn in a co-ed environment at its pre-prep and prep schools, move to single-sex education at the boys? and girls? campuses from (Year 7 to 11) before coming together again in the co-ed sixth form.
The through-school journey gives its pupils stability and continuity as well as a genuine and exciting sense of progression as children move onwards and upwards.
The different campuses mean that pupils get a real sense of ?moving on? as they progress through the school. Each school has a clear sense of identity, from the pre-prep?s walled garden, forest school and Gruffalo trail, to the prep?s amphitheatre, tennis and Fives courts.
As a through-school, pupils can enjoy the use of the wider facilities located on the senior campus, including the 479-seat Centenary theatre, chapels, sports centre, swimming pool and 4G pitches.
Making lasting friendships is an integral part of school life. Pupils can forge long-lasting friendships from their very first days in the pre-prep, and get regular opportunities to spark new ones ? the school...
