We speak to Jeremy Banks, Head of Caldicott School, Buckinghamshire, about the history of the school, and educating its pupils to become future global citizens
How long have you been at the school"
Having been appointed to Caldicott in 2017, I joined the school in April 2018. I am now just coming into my third academic year as Headmaster.
Can you tell us a little bit about the history of the school"
An inspirational Edwardian figure named Mr J Heald Jenkins established the school in Hitchin, Hertfordshire, in 1904. The school then moved to its current site in Farnham Common, just on the edge of the stunning nature reserve of Burnham Beeches, in 1938.
Heald Jenkins believed that a prep school education should offer tremendous care for the needs of each boy, great breadth of opportunity in learning and the arts, innovative teaching and plenty of sport. He wrote about decency, tolerance and humanity, which he believed would enable each boy to ?shine their light on the world?, and his vision remains just as relevant today.
What do you believe your school does particularly well"
We believe a boy?s childhood should never be compromised for the sake of test results and so we nurture remarkable all-rounders, where a boy?s EQ is valued alongside his IQ.
The boys work hard following a classical curriculum, but also enjoy a broad range of wider subjects too, such as robotics. We strike exactly the right balance between fostering an academic ethos of perseverance...
