These are certainly unprecedented times, but independent schools are rising to the quarantine challenge and demonstrating that they?re still committed to providing the best possible education while pupils learning from home.
Classrooms are almost empty (apart from key workers? children), but schools are using technology to ensure their students keep learning from home.
And teachers and pupils are adjusting to these new systems brilliantly. Some schools are using platforms like Firefly or Seesaw to set daily tasks and to mark completed work.
For example, pupils in the Lower School at Downsend in Surrey receive a daily video message from their class teacher, who also reads them a story and sets them a range of activities from right across the curriculum. Senior schools such as the Royal Hospital School in Suffolk are using platforms such as Microsoft Teams, enabling pupils to sign into real-time lessons on their iPads from home. And to meet the needs of international students, lessons are also recorded for pupils who just a week ago shared a classroom but now live in different time zones.
