Five top tips for parents on managing your child’s exam stress
Exam season can be a worrying time for all. As parents, the pressure of managing your child’s exam stress can be immense, while children in the throes of exams can feel the weight of the world on their shoulders. Managing expectations and getting into a routine is key, here we look at the top five tips for managing your child’s exam stress.
Provide a positive base
Instead of saying ?you will fail if you don?t revise? build confidence and motivation. Referencing success in past exams is useful, especially if there was a good build-up of revision.
Play to your child’s strengths
Your child has particular strengths, as do you ? play to those strengths first. Create a positive experience and then go from there.
Get a firm routine in place Find the right time and place in your daily routine and discuss with your child in advance; suddenly announcing ?revision, please? to a child is likely to elicit an adverse reaction.
Know your influence
As a parent, set the tone: being tested is part of life. Do your children see you sitting and reading, or working with documents calmly"
Be realistic
Revision is learning and during lockdowns many parents have experienced first-hand how much help children may need with their learning: do not have unrealistic expectations on what your child can do.
