The main key to success is ensuring students have a clear plan, documented and shared. Ideally, this should be discussed with teachers before the holiday to review the content and with parents so that they understand the needs of their child over the course of the break. A group tutor or other trusted adult will also be able to advise on rhythm over the course of the days and weeks and whether the student is expecting too much or too little of themselves.
Successful students will schedule variety in their revision tasks as well as building breaks, moments to relax and socialise, physical activity and good sleep hygiene. Reserving mealtimes each evening for parents to engage with their child about the day, review the plan, discuss successes, adaptations and challenges can be invaluable at providing the necessary support, care and attention at a time of heightened stress and pressure.
