How Eton College Embraces Technology and Innovation
Pupils sitting down to study spelling, punctuation and grammar (SPaG) at Eton College can now find their progress propelled by artificial intelligence rather than traditional teaching, thanks to the school?s AI-powered platform, Century, writes Katie Hughes
?I wouldn?t use it for all types of learning,? says the Director of Teaching and Learning at Eton College, Jonnie Noakes, ?but by identifying exactly what pupils need to learn and taking them down their individual paths, the platform makes improving SPaG much more efficient.?Â
Noakes explains that, ?While Eton values traditional forms of academic learning and scholarship, we?re also very interested in trialling and using innovations.? Â
Community Initiatives
It?s this eagerness to improve young people?s access to opportunity that permeates not just every area of Eton life, but every initiative with which the school is involved ? and not many opportunities come much bigger than its Centre for Innovation and Research in Learning (CIRL). Set up in 2015, CIRL sees the school working alongside Edtech entrepreneurs and other partners to explore and evaluate scientific discoveries, new technologies and best practice in teaching and learning.Â
Because CIRL is a collaborative enterprise, pupils get involved too; researching and exploring the benefits of technology in their education, and even influencing the school?s digital education strategy.Â
