Education goes beyond the curriculum at Putney High where we are empowering a generation of young women to become thought-leaders through several imaginative, research-led innovations that are already effecting change.
These, combined with an embedded culture of ‘thinking differently’, are leading not only to increasingly high academic attainment but helping pupils realise that the sky is the limit when it comes to careers and future ambition. Problem-solving and critical thinking are key. Our Head of Physics has prepared a study for NCGS Global Action Research in Girls’ Education on combatting ‘learned helplessness in girls,’ enabling and encouraging them to problem-solve in Physics and beyond. Numbers taking Physics at A-level have almost trebled since 2019 and increasingly Putney alumnae are pursuing STEAM careers in engineering, Biological Sciences, Architecture and others.
A new Innovation Centre is allowing students to explore the applications of AI and robotics, and a bespoke design thinking curriculum in year nine prepares them for hybrid roles, making connections between engineering and product design alongside computer science and maths.
