We speak to Sid Inglis, Headmaster of Elstree School, to find out more about the school?s history and how they prepare children for the next stage in their school career.
How long have you been at the school"
I have been at Elstree for almost eight years. Olivia and I moved to Elstree with our family in 2013.
Can you tell us a little bit about the history of the school"
Elstree was founded in 1848 and was originally situated in Elstree, Hertfordshire. At the outbreak of the Second World War in 1939, the staff and pupils moved to Woolhampton House in West Berkshire, a beautiful Georgian house standing in a 150 acre estate of parkland. This became Elstree?s permanent home at the end of the war and where it remains to this day. Elstree has developed its facilities considerably in the past 30 years, with a new library, Science Centre, Music Department and full-size all-weather Astro tennis/hockey pitches. The school?s ethos and atmosphere ? an aspirational and family-centred school, with children?s happiness and confidence being central to the mindset – has remained constant throughout.
Our thriving Pre-Prep was opened in 1993 and in 2020 Elstree moved to become fully co-educational, with girls as well as boys able to enjoy the many opportunities that the school has to offer.
