National Trust Launches Time + Space Award Inspired by Sir Isaac Newton
In a bid to ignite innovative spirit, the National Trust has announced the inauguration of the Time + Space Award, drawing inspiration from the journey of Sir Isaac Newton.Â
The award, tailored for individuals aged 16-25, aims to provide a platform for young visionaries to manifest their ideas while immersed in the historic setting of Newton’s homestead, Woolsthorpe Manor.
Newton’s ‘year of wonders,’ which unfolded when he was a mere 23, serves as a beacon of resilience. The young scholar, navigating personal loss and societal upheaval, seized the opportunity of isolation during the 1665 pandemic to delve into his curiosity. This period of solitude catalysed his groundbreaking discoveries in calculus, optics, motion, and gravity, reshaping the course of science. 16-25 year olds living across the UK will be able to apply for a Time + Space Award to be given time, space and resources to explore their own big idea in one of four areas: science, art and culture, society, nature and climate.Â
