Pastoral Care at Rendcomb College
Pastoral care is vital for all children but is particularly important in boarding schools where pupils are faced with the challenge of being away from home while discovering who they are as individuals. One of the aims of pastoral care is to support pupils on their journey as they become independent people and help them succeed in any areas they may find difficult. For example, at Rendcomb College each pupil is assigned a tutor and it is part of their job to identify when pupils may be struggling, be it in sports, maths, or personally, and offer them support. The college aims to guide pupils to become the best version of themselves by the time they leave school. At Rendcomb College, it is the role of pastoral leaders to have a holistic approach to care, aiding both the mental and physical health of the students.
This includes assisting them to build their confidence and sense of self as they progress from preparatory school right through to sixth form. A large part of this is being mindful of pupils? mental health and their general welfare. Tutors are the main point of contact while pupils are at Rendcomb College, but they work as a part of a larger pastoral system.
