Following a new report revealing children gain weight away from school, Start-Rite Shoes has teamed with The Daily Mile for #Find15, encouraging children to stay active during school holidays.
A new study has revealed a decrease in children?s fitness and an increase in body mass index following school holidays. This, combined with a raise in concern over the lack of information and guidance on the type of physical activity children need, has prompted a Start-Rite to join forces with The Daily Mile on a new #Find15 campaign.
According to the study, carried out by Cambridge Centre for Sport and Exercise Sciences at Anglia Ruskin University on behalf of Start-Rite Shoes, less than 10 per cent of primary school aged children (5+ years) are meeting the government?s guidelines of 60 minutes of moderate to vigorous physical activity per day. The study also suggests that there is limited information to support parents on the required intensity or duration of bouts and revealed parents should not assume organised team sports provide sufficient levels of physical activity. In fact, only 25 percent of time spent doing these sports is at the cardio level needed to strengthen muscle and bone, which is key to healthy ageing.
