2017's top baby-name trends: athletes, food, nature, Disney

I know everyone is aching to know the hottest baby name trends of 2017. Will the kindergarten class of 2023 will be filled with little Moanas" Will your little princess be a strong-named, stand-out kind of gal, or one of many" Are other NBA fans going to flood the world with little LeBrons"
Well, chances are probably not.
As we reported earlier in our post See: Results are in! BabyCenter's hot 100 baby names are... the top 5 boy and girl names of the last decade haven?t changed a whole lot. Jackson was just named number 1 for a fifth consecutive year for boys. Sophia has held strong at the top for the last 8 years for girls.
It seems the really interesting changes lie within those other baby names holding up the rear. When looking back at previous name trends throughout the last decade, it is undeniable the influence pop culture has had on name choice. Past name trends clearly show influence from things like reality TV, the Olympics, and royal family happenings during that particular time period. This year is no different.
Perhaps the most notable increases of 2017 are names that appear to be inspired by Disney princesses for girls, and famous basketball players -- as well as rappers -- for boys.
Disney princess names gaining momentum are:
Moana (up 64%)
Belle (up 23%)
Ariel (up 22%)
Nala (up 8%)
Tiana (up 2%)
Jasmine (up 1%)
