Why don't more family homes have nurseries attached to the master bedroom"
by Michelle Stein posted in Parenting
About a week ago, my family of five said goodbye to our home, packed up our belongings and moved into a new house.
And by "new," I mean "new to us" because this house is actually older than our previous home. (But it's bigger, which is super convenient, considering I'm pregnant with our fourth baby.) Among the details that I'm absolutely loving about our new diggs -- in addition to having an extra bedroom and another full bathroom -- is the fact that we have a nursery attached to the master bedroom.
That's right. There's no hallway, or even a door, separating our sleeping area from this cozy space.
Guys, I haven't even had a chance to use this space yet, and I'm already obsessed with the idea. How convenient will middle-of-the-night feedings be for this next baby" After my husband handles diaper duty, I can just walk a few steps and sit down in the glider to breastfeed. Then, when the baby (ideally) falls asleep again, my bed is right there. No longer will I have to cram a bassinet into a corner of our bedroom for a few months, before relocating the baby to his/her own bedroom at the opposite corner of the second floor.
No longer will I have to stumble my way through the dark to the end of the hallway and then back again. Times a million.
No longer will I have to be paranoid about the baby monitor coming unplugged/malfunctioning at night and not being able to hear his/her cries.
Bonus: Even after we're well ...
